HISTORIC MILES CITY TO DEADWOOD TRAIL RIDE

The Days of ’76 Museum and Trail Ride Committee invites riders to partner with us to keep history alive as we commission a trail ride on the original trail linking Miles City, Montana and Deadwood, South Dakota. The sanctioned ride will congregate in Miles City August 20, 2010 and arrive in Deadwood on Labor Day weekend, 2010.

Participation will be limited to horses, mules and wagons. All riders will have to submit an application and release of liability to the Days Of ’76 Museum prior to being allowed access to this event. Fees will be collected from each applicant to cover research and guiding along trail, water for animals, evening lectures on the history of surrounding area, portable toilets, motorized transportation from evening camps to point where the days ride began to allow riders to obtain their vehicles and support equipment, and participation in a celebration in Deadwood at the conclusion of the ride at the Days of ’76 Rodeo grounds. Certificates and badges will be given out to show participation in the ride. All riders and participants will be required to wear badges issued to show authorization at all times.
Riders will be required to follow rules that will be determined and announced at the start of each day concerning time of start, orders, rules, and any other necessary restriction that may be determined the Trail Management.
This ride will cover approximately 200 miles through Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Travel will be limited at 15 to 20 miles per day. All landowners granting easement on trail will be granted complimentary badges that will enable them to travel the entire distance on the trail ride.
Thank you for working with us on this historical event. It is our goal to promote the heritage of the west, and get this trail on the National Historic Register.
