Executive Director

Summary

The executive director of Deadwood Gaming Association (DGA) and the related duties as executive director of Business Improvement District 8 (BID 8) is responsible for leading and managing the operations, programs, finances, and advocacy of both organizations. The executive director reports to the board of directors of each organization and works closely with the members, stakeholders, and partners of the DGA and BID 8. The executive director also serves as the public face and spokesperson of the DGA and BID 8, promoting their mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and annual goals for the DGA and BID 8 in alignment with the boards’ directions and the members’ needs.
  • Oversee and coordinate the DGA’s and BID 8’s programs and services, including public relations, marketing, research, and industry liaison to the South Dakota Commission on Gaming.
  • Manage the DGA’s and BID 8’s budgets, financial reports, audits, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the DGA’s and BID 8’s members, stakeholders, and partners, including gaming operators, regulators, legislators, media, and community groups.
  • Represent and advocate for the DGA’s and BID 8’s interests and positions on gaming-related and city-related issues and policies at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Enhance the DGA’s and BID 8’s visibility and reputation as the voices of the gaming industry and the mutual business interests in Deadwood South Dakota.
  • Lobbying efforts pursuant to the boards’ direction on gaming and city-related issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or related field preferred, but not required.
  • At least five years of senior-level management experience in a nonprofit, trade association, or gaming-related or municipal-related organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the gaming industry and the historic district, their trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive innovation and change.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism, with a commitment to the DGA’s and BID 8’s missions, visions, and values.

Deadwood Welcome Center/History & Information Center

The Deadwood Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau is looking for highly motivated people who have a passion for welcoming visitors to our historic town, nestled in the beautiful Black Hills. We are now accepting applications for Seasonal Information Specialists to serve at our two Welcome Centers.

Information Specialists assist visitors with their travel planning, answer questions and promote Deadwood’s historic attractions. Applicants must have knowledge of Deadwood’s history and attractions; and training is available! Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude are required for these positions.

Information Specialists start at an hourly wage of $14.00.

Our Welcome Center and History & Information Center are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. These seasonal positions begin in May and run through September.

Cooks: Full time with Federal Benefits

This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Center.  The incumbent cooks and prepares a variety of hot and cold menu items for staff; and special events groups that vary in size. The cook is responsible for handling and storing food in a clean and sanitary environment and for the control of stock levels of food and supplies.

Assignments are received orally and in writing from their immediate supervisor or a higher-level cook in the form of a cook’s worksheet, menus, standardized recipes, meal schedules, and special work orders. Plans, coordinates, and times work assignments to assure that food items are prepared on time and are at the proper temperature. Makes judgments about the recipe modifications needed to meet changes in the number of servings required. Adjusts the amounts and proportions of ingredients in recipes while maintaining the original balance between ingredient quantities and the number of portions needed. Suggests to a higher-level cook or supervisor adaptations of standardized recipes to allow for differences on the cooking equipment specified in the recipe and the equipment that is available. Responsible for the safe use and care of kitchen equipment. Work is evaluated in process and upon completion by the supervisor of higher-grade cook in terms of the timeliness, quality, flavor, and appearance of prepared foods and conformance to sanitation and safety standards. May supervise or instruct others on how to improve work methods through performance and conduct evaluation. Work is reviewed in terms of ensuring meals are on time, sanitary, cooking conditions and inventories maintained, food is edible and the quality is at an acceptable level.

Dorm Supervisor: Full time with Federal Benefits

This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center.  The incumbent of this position provides leadership and guidance to students in a group living environment and provides practical counseling to students. This position is required to work swing shift and night shift when determined by the needs of the Center.

Provides input in the planning of dormitory activities of students. Maintains order and discipline among students, observing and recording social behavior patterns to aid in counseling and or placement of students.  Documents both positive and negative behavior traits.  Schedules, coordinates, and supervises work details, recreational and other group activities including making reservations, acquiring transportation, and other related arrangements and providing information concerning these activities.  Assigns individual duties by establishing student work rosters on a rotating basis and ensuring that students adhere to assigned tasks. Provides leadership and direction to students in performing daily housekeeping duties, work details, physical training, recreation, hygiene, etc.  Gives practical advice and counsel to students in order to assist in developing work skills.

Conducts various dorm meetings during absence of the supervisor to disseminate information to students, and provide guidance in such areas as group living problems.  Facilities student group counseling sessions.  Meets individually with students to discuss day-to-day problems encountered in residential living.  Gives practical advice and counsel to students and proposes solutions to routine problems without imposing personal values.
