Northern Hills Recreation Association

The Northern Hills Recreation Association (NHRA) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit supporting youth sports activities, based in the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. NHRA is governed through a volunteer board comprised of members from the Lead and Deadwood communities. Northern Hills Rec was organized to promote, develop, and operate high quality recreational activities in the Northern Black Hills. The members recognize opportunities to promote and enhance an outdoor lifestyle in the region and the need for additional quality outdoor events.

The mission of the Northern Hills Recreation Association is to strengthen the Northern Black Hills communities through programs, services, and facilities which enhance personal development, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage community involvement, and foster environmental stewardship.

USEFUL LINKS

Northern Hills Rec’s reach extends beyond hosting high quality events in the rugged northern Black Hills.

TRAILS

The Trails Committee of the Northern Hills Recreation Association is working to develop a diverse network of recreation and back-country trails for skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, running, hiking and equestrian activities along with enhancing the motorized trails in the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. This effort has resulted in a broad-based collaboration with the Cities of Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish, Sturgis, the Black Hills National Forest, the Bureau of Land Management, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and the Homestake Mining Company.

The ultimate goal mirrors the goal of the Black Hills Trails where a diverse network of studiously designed, judiciously constructed and expertly maintained trails connect every city, town and point of interest in the region.  This is an ongoing effort and updates will be provided on the “Trails Committee” page on this site.

YOUTH RECREATION

NHRA acknowledges the importance of promoting area youth sports organizations and has provided a page on this site dedicated to youth recreation postings and registration information.

NORTHERN HILLS RECREATION LIBRARY

Information regarding the existing trails and recreational opportunities available are sometimes difficult to find so NHRA is working to compile a “library” of information for locals and visitors to help make this wonderful area easier to discover.
