Lit, Filter, April Wine among Deadwood Jam headliners
DEADWOOD, S.D. (7-11-14) -- The 24th annual Deadwood Jam will feature pop music veterans The Grass Roots and April Wine as well as contemporary rockers Filter, Lit and Fastball. This year’s Deadwood Jam will be Friday, Sept 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 in downtown Deadwood.
Friday night’s headliner, Fastball, formed in Austin in 1995. Three years later, Fastball’s album “All the Pain Money Can Buy” reached platinum sales in just six months, with hits like “The Way” and “Out of My Head.” The band has been nominated for two Grammy Awards.
Saturday’s lineup features Lit, The Grass Roots, April Wine and Filter. Again this year, Jam organizers will let fans decide which regional band should open for Saturday’s headliners. Visit the Deadwood Jam Facebook page to nominate and vote for your favorite act. Last year Dan Sherrill of Wheatland, Wyo., was chosen.
Lit, a high-energy alternative rock band from California, released several singles in the 1990s and 2000s, including the hit “My Own Worst Enemy.” Lit’s music has also been featured on a number of movie soundtracks, including “American Pie 2” and “Mr. Deeds.”
The Grass Roots, best known for its hits “Temptation Eyes,” “Let’s Live for Today” and “Heaven Knows,” had two gold albums, one gold single and 21 records that made the music charts during a recording career that began in 1965.
Filter, an industrial rock band from Cleveland, has released six albums since it formed in 1993 and continues to record. Their most recent album, “The Sun Comes Out Tonight,” was released in 2013 and includes the single “What Do You Say.” Hits like “Hey Man Nice Shot,” Welcome to the Fold, “Jurrasitol” and “Take a Picture” continue to find fans. Richard Patrick, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, toured as a guitarist with Nine Inch Nails before joining Brian Liesegang to form Filter.
April Wine, a veteran rock band from Canada, has released more than 20 albums over a career that spans more than 40 years. Hits include “Just Between You and Me,” “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” and “Bad Side of the Moon.”
Tickets are on sale now for $50 per person for both days of the show. The price goes up to $60 on August 1. For tickets and a complete concert schedule, visit www.deadwoodjam.com.
