Homestake Trail Volksmarch LogoCelebrate 150 years of history, community, and connection at the Homestake Trail Volksmarch, a special event commemorating the 150th anniversaries of Lead and Deadwood. This collaborative celebration honors the shared heritage and enduring partnership between our neighboring communities while showcasing the natural beauty that connects them.

The Volksmarch features a scenic 3.5-mile hike along the Homestake Trail, a favorite route among local residents. Participants will begin at the Lead Dog Park/Homestake Trailhead in Lead and finish at the Mickelson Trailhead in Deadwood.

Convenient parking will be available at the Sherman Street Parking Lot in Deadwood and at Gold Run Park and Manuel Brothers Park in Lead. Complimentary trolley service will run continuously between Lead and Deadwood parking locations from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., making transportation easy for all participants. A designated drop-off and pick-up area will also be available near the trailhead.

Tickets start as low as $8.24 including fees and go up to $23.18 if you’d like a commemorative t-shirt.

This is a Deadwood Trails event, a subcommittee of Deadwood’s Main Street Initiative.

Chuckwagon Gathering

After completing the hike, participants are invited to continue the celebration at Deadwood’s Chuckwagon Gathering beginning at high noon in Deadwood City Park. This family-friendly event will include a dedication ceremony for Deadwood’s new trail system, an authentic chuckwagon supper prepared by some of the nation’s finest chuckwagon chefs, and live entertainment from talented cowboy singers.

Crafts at the Cut

The festivities don’t stop there. Make your way back to Lead at 3:00 p.m. for the Crafts at the Cut Beer Festival, part of the annual Fall in Love with Lead celebration.

Each beer festival ticket includes a commemorative tasting glass and access to sample more than 20 craft beers from local and regional breweries.

This lively mountain-town celebration brings together arts, ales, and great food for an unforgettable afternoon featuring:
